ADULT STUDENTS

This page provides details of the different types of lesson available to adult students of the flute, recorder and piano.

From time to time there are specific events for adults of all abilities. Please contact Jessica for further details, or for any other enquiries.

"I USED TO PLAY YEARS AGO...."

Many people learn to play an instrument at school, and then as an adult find that they no longer have the time to play. Sometimes, many years later the desire to make music returns. It can be daunting to contemplate restarting an instrument long since abandoned. Often we find that we don't sound as good, that we are no longer as fluent, or that we have forgotten most of what we learnt as a child.

Jessica will help you to rediscover the beauty of music and the pleasure of creating it. Lessons in flute, piccolo, recorder and piano are available. If you have any queries, please contact Jessica.

For most adults with busy lives, a 60 minute lesson once  a fortnight is recommended.

"I ALWAYS WISHED I COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, ISN'T IT TOO LATE TO START NOW?"

It's never too late to learn something new. Adults have advantages that children just don't have. They usually have a love of music and a desire to achieve more than 'just playing the notes'. A greater degree of self-discipline along with the ability to work towards a long term goal are also more the preserve of the more mature student. For those who are curious as to what is possible, I can highly recommend the wonderful book Never Too Late by John Holt.

Lessons are available for adult beginners on flute, recorder and piano. Weekly 30 minute or fortnightly 45 minute lessons are advised for the first 6 months. If you would like to discuss your requirements further, please contact Jessica.

"I'M INTERESTED IN LEARNING ALONGSIDE MY CHILD...."

Learning, or relearning an instrument alongside your child is a rewarding experience for both of you. Children often work much harder as the urge to compete kicks in. This is especially apparent in younger children, less so in those older than 10. For more details of bespoke family programmes, please contact Jessica.

"I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE MUSIC WITH OTHERS, BUT I'M NERVOUS...."

You are not alone. Many people feel that they are barred through participating in musical activities because they are "not good enough". Everybody has the capacity to be moved by music, and everybody has the ability to make music. Jessica runs regular events for the shyer musician, where musicians are matched with those of similar abilities, for workshops and chamber music coaching. Please contact Jessica for further details.

If you are interested in an instrument aside from the flute, recorder or piano, please contact Jessica for a recommendation.
